Class Beech 2022 - 2023

Welcome to Beech Class
Monday 23rd January- Home Learning 
Please find below the home learning activities for today. 
We are looking forward to welcoming both you and your child to Berry Hill Primary School and aim to make the transition to school a smooth one. 
Beech Class Staff 
Beech Class work very closely with our Acorns Pre-School within our shared Early Years Classrooms, therefore, your child will work closely with all members of the Early Years team.

This term our topic is titled 'Marvellous Beasts' and will involve us leaning all about different creatures that live today as well as those that lived many years ago. 
Each Monday we will take part in Forest School Sessions, please ensure that your child bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear to spend an whole afternoon in our woodland area. 
PE will take place on a Thursday. Please ensure that your child has a PE kit in school everyday. 
Our Library sessions will be alternate Fridays
With each new topic the children are invited to complete optional Home Learning challenges which support the learning taking place in the classroom. Details of this terms homework challenges can be found  below and a copy is provided in your child's Home Learning Book.

Thursday 15th December 
This morning we enjoyed making Christmas biscuits. We worked together to measure and combine the ingredients before rolling out the dough and using the shape cutters.  Once they were baked and had cooled we then decorated them using the icing and sprinkles. 
Tuesday 13th December 
Today we enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch. Thank- you Miss Boseley and Miss Hughes it was delicious. 
Thursday 8th December 
This week we have joined the other Infant classes to put on a fantastic performance of 'Wriggly Nativity' 
Friday 25th November 
As part of our 'Superheroes' topic, today we were visited by Mrs Gemma Edwards who works as a nurse within a busy hospital. Mrs Edwards talked to the children about her role as a nurse and how she helps others. She then demonstrated how to use a tuning fork to test a persons hearing and bandage a injury before letting us have a go at using the medicine syringes to squirt coloured water.
Wednesday 16th November 
As part of our 'Superheroes' topic we were visited by Firefighters from Coleford Fire Station. The children enjoyed learning about the role of the Firefighter, exploring the Fire Engine and having a go with the hose. A big thank you to Coleford Fire Station for the visit, the children loved it. 
Thursday 10th November 
After the half term break we have settled back into the routine with ease. Here are just a few photos from the classroom. 
Friday 14th October
Today as part of our focus on Autumn we enjoyed a walk in the local woodland, observing the seasonal changes and collecting leaves, acorns and chestnuts for our themed tray. 
Wednesday 12th October 
On Monday it was World Mental Health Day, to acknowledge and celebrate this day we dressed up to represent our hobbies and interests and took part in activities which promoted the 'Five ways of well being'. Our favourite activities were a listening  walk around the school grounds and yoga. 
Monday 10th October 
We continue to enjoy our weekly Forest School sessions, this week we have been exploring the autumn leaves.

Wednesday 28th September 
Today we visited our local church to add our collaborative artwork to the book of condolence for Queen Elizabeth. Whilst there some of us lit a candle of remembrance. We really enjoyed sharing this experience with our Year Five buddies.
Monday 26th September
Today we enjoyed our first Forest School session, we were introduced to the Forest School Rules and had great fun exploring the woodland site. We look forward to next weeks session. 
Friday 24th September
We continue to enjoy the activities on offer in Beech Class. Here are some photos to give you just a snapshot of  what we have been up to this week. 
Thursday 23rd September 
Today we took part in our first proper maths lesson. We examined the picture and noticed four candles, four cakes and a card displaying the number four. We then counted out four party hats, four cakes and four candles, before carrying out four claps, four jumps and four wiggles on the carpet. Following the input the children enjoyed hosting a 'Birthday Party' in the Home Corner and visiting the 'Toy Shop' to count out the correct amount of pennies to match the price tags. 
Friday 16th September
Wow what a brilliant start to the academic year. The children have settled into the school routine and are enjoying the activities on offer. Here are just a few photographs from our first two weeks in school.
