Updated guidance on managing Covid-19 in line with other acute respiratory illnesses from 1st April has been released by the Government, and we will continue to update this webpage accordingly.
- a higher than previously experienced and/or rapidly increasing number of staff or student absences due to acute respiratory infection or diarrhoea and vomiting, e.g. if there is a doubling of absences across the setting or in a year group in a short space of time.
- evidence of severe disease due to an infection, for example if a pupil, student, child or staff member is admitted to hospital for an overnight stay or longer.
- more than one infection circulating in the same group of students and staff for example chicken pox and scarlet fever.
OUTBREAK MANAGEMENT PLAN
From 1 April, the Government removed the health and safety requirement for every employer to explicitly consider COVID-19 in their risk assessments. The Government ‘Working Safely’ guidance has now been replaced by new public health guidance. Schools should continue to consider the needs of employees at greater risk from COVID-19, including those whose immune system means they are at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19.
The Government’s objective in the next phase of the COVID-19 response is to enable the country to manage COVID-19 like any other respiratory illness. Schools will be encouraged to update their whole school risk assessment to include COVID-19 under ‘infection control’.
