At Berry Hill Primary School we recognise that punctual and regular school attendance is essential to ensure progress and enable children to meet their full potential.  We expect all children to attend every day, as long as they are fit and healthy enough to do so.
All parents and carers of children of school age have a legal responsibility to ensure their children attend school every day.
If you child is ill, or absent for some other reason, please ring the school (01594 832262) no later than 9.30am giving the reason for the absence so the appropriate code can be entered in our register.  If we have not heard from you by 9.30am, we will contact you.
We want all children to be in school as much as possible, and therefore discourage any time off during term time.  If you wish to make a request for time off, please complete the form below and return to to the office for the attention of Mrs Hunt, Headteacher
The government sets us a target attendance of 96%, and to help us achieve this we review the attendance of all children each term.  Where children have met this target, they receive a certificate, and if they are below then a letter is sent home to raise awareness.
We know that, at times, low attendance will be the result of illness or other unavoidable reason, and this will be reflected in the letter.
Where attendance drops below 85%, this is considered a serious concern, and we will contact you directly to ask you to come into school so we can discuss this.  Such low attendance will have a detrimental effect on learning, progress and attainment of a child, and needs to be addressed.   All parents and carers have a legal responsibility to have their children in school every day.  We will of course support you with this, but would encourage all parents and carers to having their children in school as much as possible.
