Class Maple 2017-2018

Dear Parents/ Carers,
We hope you all had a wonderful Summer. We'd like to welcome you and your children to Class Maple.
It was lovely to meet so many of you at the Parents' meeting the other night and we look forward to getting to know you more over the coming year.
Mrs Collins and Mrs Furness.
We are adding some of the information onto the website that we discussed at the meeting.
  • A subject overview for this half term.
  • A math overview for this half term (on meet the parents powerpoint).
  • An English overview for this half term (on meet the teacher powerpoint).
  • The common exception words for year 1 and 2.
Homework will be coming home on Friday and we will enclose:
  • The mini homework challenges for Autumn 1.
  • A list of the weekly spellings.
  • A reminder of homework expectations.
Autumn 2
Can't believe we've already completed a half term!
It's been great getting to know all the children and parents and we've had a very good start to the new school year.
We're attaching new copies of:
  • A subject overview for this half term.
  • A math overview for this half term
  • An English overview for this half term
We will also be practising for the Christmas play.
Well done to all the Class Maple children who completed their Autumn 1 mini challenges.
A great deal of hard work and effort went into the extra work that they undertook. They should be very proud of themselves.
These are some photos from our first football skills session.
The children really enjoyed themselves and learnt lots of new skills!
Class Maple went to Forest Hills on Monday 4th December to sing some Christmas songs to the over 80's club.
The children were FANTASTIC!
They were a real credit to Berry Hill School, singing with such obvious enjoyment and enthusiasm.
As you can see from the photographs Class Maple have been hard at work learning their words and practising their songs for the Christmas play 'A magical Christmas Jigsaw'.
We'd like to say a huge 'THANK YOU' and 'WELL DONE' to all the children who took part in the Christmas play and to the parents who helped them learn their parts.
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
We're including the new planning for Spring 1
Once again lots of children from class Maple took up 'The Mini Homework Challenge'.
There were many really interesting and well produced pieces of work. Well done.
Weather permitting we are going to try out the paper planes in the playground to see how far they can travel!
A Fantastic Trip!
Class Maple had a wonderful time on their visit to Aerospace Bristol. The lady who took them for the 'heroes of space' session commented on their wonderful behaviour, politeness and kindness in working together on tasks. It was a lovely compliment for the children to receive.
There were lots of exciting exhibits to see and interesting facts to find out about, but I think that for most of the children the highlight of the day was the trip to see and go inside Concorde.
As you can see from the photographs it is an amazing sight.
During our session the children made paper aeroplanes and tested them out on their very own runway.
We had many different types of designs. Some did loop-the -loops, some shot up in the air and some flew straight down for take off.
Take a look.
Hard to believe we're already in Spring 2 term.
Here are the plans for Spring 2.
Class Maple had a fantastic 'World Book Day'.
We were visited by the author and illustrator Shoo Raynor who read some of his stories to the children and also illustrated their ideas in front of the children. It was very inspiring.
We also wore our pyjamas and shared our favourite books with each other.
Take a look at the book choices of Class Maple.
Class Maple children certainly LOVE to read and we are very grateful for the wonderful reading support that comes from home. We believe it makes the biggest difference to the way the children are able to be more independent at school.
Summer 1
Can you believe we are already in the Summer term!
Here are the plans etc for this half term, although with the SAT tests during this time, some of the topic/ plans may have to roll over into Summer 2 term.
This half term our topic is 'FOREST ROOTS'. We will be studying the local environment around Berry Hill and within the Forest of Dean.
If anyone has any old pictures of the area or the school itself, it would be lovely to be able to show them to the children.
Congratulations to:
  • Aj
  • Jamie A
  • Jenna
  • Mutya
for completing their Spring 2 Mini Homework Challenges.
Photos to follow.
Also to all the children who received certificates for good attendance throughout the year.
It's amazing that we are now in the last half term. Where has the year gone?!
Just wanted to say how proud we are of the way the children coped with all the assessments last half term. They all tried their hardest.
New plans for Summer 2;
